Should Duplicati be able to mount a destination smb share?
I have two backup clients, Linux and MacOS.
Each backs up to a different folder on a single smb share.
In both cases, the destination isn’t found unless I first manually mount the smb share.
I’ve configured the backup task with the share’s username and password in Step2 of the wizard.
I’ve also now configured auth-username, auth-password, and force-smb-authentication, to no avail.
I’ve looked for clues in the log, but haven’t seen anything about mounting smb/cifs.
Should Duplicati be able to mount the smb share? If so, what am I doing wrong?
Maybe Duplicati is trying to mount the entire path including the destination folders, rather than the subpath representing only the share? If so, where would I specify the exact path of the share?
The automatic mounting only works on Windows unfortunately.
The force-smb-authentication is also “windows only”.
If you want to mount a CIFS share, you can use the latest canary build, which has a new destination option for CIFS.
This one is built without operating system support, so it works the same on all operating systems. Using this method also avoids having the backup destination available for other processes on the machine.
Understood. Any idea when this new destination option for CIFS will appear in the Stable channel? Also if I were to now try out Canary, and then roll back to today’s Stable, would anything break?
We are working hard on fixing the last few issues remaining for the 2.2 release:
Once they are fixed, we can make the experimental build that will progress to a stable release if no serious blockers are found.
There are a few changes to the database that prevents a simple install-to-downgrade, but the latest canary builds contain a database-tool that can downgrade (no data loss). You just need to run the tool before you actually downgrade, as you need the tool in the latest version for it to know all versions.
