How to start over on Mac with a fresh instllation

I installed the latest version of Duplicati on my Mac (arm chip). But it failed to start. I followed steps defined in Duplicati not starting on MacOS Monterey 12.3 on M1 - #7 by ChrisH and I was able to start duplicate if I run in sudo mode.

I had installed duplicate on this machine years back which I then had removed. But it looks like the old setting still persist. And since I don’t have the password I am unable to login. How do I do a clean installation and remove all existing config?

Do you see any error messages?

Those are for an older version of Duplicati that used Mono, so you may get different results.

If it starts in sudo mode, then most likely there is a permission issue somewhere.

For the Mono based versions of Duplicati, it will store files in ~/.config/Duplicati, so if you have an existing installation, this is probably where the configuration is stored.

The latest versions use the more MacOS correct folder ~/Library/Application Support/Duplicati to store the files, but it will use the older folder instead of creating an empty database if possible.

Whatever the path, look at the folder and see if the files+folders are owned by your user. If not, change them all to be owned by your user.

Is this perhaps the API password? If so, you will be able to reset it simply by running the application and opening from the icon. More details on how to reset the password are on the page on the Duplicati access password.

Simply remove the folders ~/.config/Duplicati or ~/Library/Application Support/Duplicati, and there will be no more Duplicati data.

I removed this directory and reinstalled. Now it works without issues.

Also noticed that in dark mode, the duplicati icon is not visible on Mac toolbar.
