Hello,
I’d like to back up my windows pc to a local truenas fileserver. Duplicati looks like the right thing for me. Before I try it I have a question. There is a download for windows but there is also a Duplicati app available in truenas. Which of the two would be the right fit for my purpose?
I’m not interested in cloud backups and the truenas server is only for local access.
So do I install the windows app or the truenas app? Or will I need both? What’s the difference?
Thanks.
Hi @klabauter, welcome to the forum
You should install Duplicati on the machine where you have the data that needs to be backed up. We are introducing ways to make backups of data that is not locally present, but the most efficient way is to have the source data available locally for Duplicati.
As Duplicati supports a wide variety of storage destinations, it does not have a server/destination component. You can use your favorite protocol to connect to TrueNAS and store backup data there (SSH, FTP, SMB, etc).
OK, understood, makes sense now. I’ll install the windows app.
Thanks!
