Persistent failure of a backup that previously succeeded

I am seeing a backup repeatedly fail. First, I should note that in the UI, I get NO logs. I had to start the application manually from the command line witha log file output setting. When I look at the log file, I see this:

I have tried deleting/repairing the database, multiple times.

This is on Windows 10, usually running as a service. Using the latest canary build (2.0.3.9)

I run to same problem. Database deleted and after rebuild this constrains.
There is similar thread. UNIQUE constraint failed with SIA (Support Request) [2.0.3.6]

Thanks for that @mnaiman. Though downgrading to 3 versions ago (especially since that was released in April I believe) does not really seem like a great solution. The newer version fixes other issues I had been having with backups on windows hosts (partially revolving around in-use files, etc).

Thing is, I’m perfectly happy to delete all backed up data for this data set, and re-do the backup from scratch, but there does not seem to be an option for doing that, and deleting the database and moving the backup files out of the way, then starting a new backup does not seem to have that effect. I still end up with the same error.

I would love to get a solution (even if it involves manually running a query against the sqlite database) that fixes the issue. Especially as this is NOT an issue on my other windows hosts running the same version (I have a solid mix of linux and windows machines runnig Duplicati).

@prez If you did not downgrade could you try to add:

--log-file-log-filter=+*.FileEntry*
--log-file=<path-to-file>

and then run the backup again to collect log data. The last line before the error should be: Skipped checking file, because no metadata was updated <path-to-error-file>

Then check the log file to see if the problematic file is mentioned elsewhere.

For someone who got the error in 2019: I had files with bad chars in filenames on a ntfs disk. (hfs data copied in linux on a ntfs drive). You have 2 options: fix your naming in linux or run chkdsk /f and say good bye to your files. Maybe there is a third option. Good luck!

I’m getting this error running 2.0.4.38_canary_2019-12-29
I have the above logs but it’s not clear if there’s an offending file. I need to change the job to avoid the temp files but that’s beside the point. That’s a really long path but the previous path of similar length worked without error.

I never got this properly resolved but removal of the Temp Internet directory alleviated the problem. Positing the following in case it’s useful for anyone. Investigation shows Dropbox\ contains two sub directories named shellext. Furthermore one file in one of the l\ directories one of the file has the regular alphanumeric name with some added logograms.

Issue may be related to: Error during backup - Abort due to constraint violation UNIQUE constraint failed: FilesetEntry.FilesetID, FilesetEntry.FileID
