Move target USB drive to different LAN server

Some of my backups go to a desktop computer on my household LAN with a 1 TB USB SSD. It is running Fedora 34. That desktop is aging, and I want to replace it, maybe with a RaspberryPi.

I would like to unplug the USB SSD from the desktop and plug it in to the new target computer. What steps must I follow to keep this process as foolproof as possible?

From a Duplicati point of view it’s pretty simple. You just change your destination server/path/protocol as needed. I have moved my Duplicati destination 3 or 4 times over the years.
