Mac Yosemite upgrade, duplicati lockout and crash

Hi all:

Just upgraded to Yosemite 15.3.1 and at the same time (mistake?), installed Duplicati 2.1.0.4_stable_2025-01-31

I’m not server-level savvy at all; I can run a command in Terminal when instructed, that’s about it. Been running/using Duplicati successfully for years.

Running a Duplicati window (I just go to localhost:8200 in my browser), I get a Connection Lost error window:

“Connection to server was rejected due to invalid authentication. Log in again, or re-open the page from the TrayIcon (if applicable)”

Clicking Login yields a PW request window. Entering my duplicati backup password (not my duplicati.com PW) fails.

Duplicati has also crashed twice overnight (when backup’s scheduled but it seems not at that scheduled backup time) and crashed my whole mac in the process.

I read the help file at Duplicati Access Password | Duplicati, but it’s ~all greek to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Seeing this thread: Unable to backup after upgrade to 2.1.0.4_stable

Not sure if it’s pertinent in my case (different errors though also 2.1.04-related), perhaps worth mentioning that my backups are also to S3.

Welcome to the forum @horatio

You should probably get comment from someone who has a Mac, but in the meantime…

macOS Sequoia 15.3.1 was Feb 10. Is that what you mean? I think Yosemite is long gone.

Using Duplicati with MacOS talks about that. Is that about what you did?

Using the TrayIcon describes the password-free way in. Can you do that?

Access from the TrayIcon has a video showing where to go for a TrayIcon.
I’m not sure if you have a dark theme, but at one time it was hard to see…

If you can get in, use Settings to add the GUI password, if you never did it.

You can then use the password from a login screen if you prefer that route.

If you get in, you can see if you put a leading slash on the S3 Folder path.
If not, it’s probably something else. You can also view logs for backup times.

is kind of indeterminate. I’d tend not to blame Duplicati if it was idle at crash.

Thanks, TS! For the time being, since I’m still getting hard crashes of the Mac (including one where it didn’t even restart itself) and Out of Application Memory errors, I’ve eradicated Duplicati from my system, including all the nook-and-cranny system files lurking about. Once that problem’s fully resolved, I’ll reinstall Duplicati and give quality time and attention to your generously written suggestions. Thanks again.
