How can I find out the size of the source before starting the backup?
I only get the actual size of the source once the backup is complete.

For a very simple configuration, ask your operating system, e.g. Windows right-click → Properties.
For a complicated configuration, you can do a dry-run backup. It will be thorough, but not so quick.
An alternative faster but kind of wordy method for a complicated configuration might be The TEST-FILTERS command run in GUI Commandline, which will list all relevant files then a size at the end. Syntax does not want Target URL, so you would clear that while leaving Commandline arguments.
