GUI TrayIcon crash using Windows task planner

Starting GUI via desktop icon (right click → run as administrator) does work.

Does it also stay up? Sounds that way, but sounds like it’s not what you want.
Windows has many terminal programs, and I’m just asking about testing one.

What I’ve not figured out yet is how to get them working by schedule, as the exported command line does not seem to include any information regarding time.

Time of backup is set by Windows Task Scheduler. Duplicati can’t start itself.

If I make a mistake in the setup and don’t see it, I’ll end up with no or unusuable backups…

You have all the notifiers of GUI client, including option of remote monitoring.
Granted it’s harder to manually inspect and restore from background backup.

I can stick to manually starting duplicati, that’s pretty much the same…

I’m not sure Task Scheduler can do UAC. The problem is it’s in its own desktop.
I thought there was an option right on the task to elevate, but I don’t go that way.

Documentation is Install service. You would run one command for basic install.
I think next Stable release will let you tell the GUI install program to set that up.

You don’t need the TrayIcon to make backups. The Server can make backups.
Whether or not it will stay up better needs testing, but you can certainly try that.

The second task the TrayIcon is usually responsible for, is to host the Server component.

The Server is what makes the backups. The tray icon just makes usage easier.

What do you refer to?

The thing before it – TrayIcon. It’s Server plus an icon. Then I suggest Server.

Exactly as TrayIcon does. There’s a GUI that you open in your browser for that.
Getting into the Server can be harder to set up, but if you have a URL that’s got
access for TrayIcon, you can note the URL, and use Settings to set a password.

Yes, but you can also just try start.

If user is the same, it should still work because TrayIcon has a server part inside.

Does your Task Schedule config have the following set? Looks like it’s the default:

If you have it set, then that may explain what looks like a crash. If not, who knows?

Regardless, hearing that yours work without the Task Scheduler, I’m testing with it.
I can get instant crash if I set “Run with highest privileges”, but I’m after slow ones.

I almost don’t dare to write it, but: Yes - and yes. The flag was set in the task configuration (to one hour, so if 3 days is default, not even to a default value); and disabling this setting seems to have done the trick. At least, since it is disabled, I’ve not discovered Duplicati crashing anymore.

I thought I have checked all the options; obviously I was wrong.
