Errors while backing up files from same folder

Hello.
I started using duplicati the last Sunday backing up my data towards Backblaze B2.

I installed it on my Synology Nas using docker, it’s running as my admin account (puid and admin pgid) but for whatever reason, there are some files that wouldn’t backup up. Moreover, there are some files from that same folder which were backed up without any problems.

Could anyone shed some light on this?

The stored log is unfortunately hiding the actual error messages. This will be fixed in the next release, but for now you need to go to the server log on the about page. I think the same warnings should also be there. If not, please run the backup again and keep the live log (also on that page) open on Information level in a second tab.

Without the error messages I can’t tell you what the reason is.

To get less uninformative message, it’s even possible to run the live log at warning level and when a warning happens, click on it to display the full (exception) message.

I’m so sorry for the very late response but I didn’t have enough time these past weeks.

So according to the live warning logs, the problem would be permissions. It’s kinda strange because it seems permissions for the photos folder changed at some point after 28/04/2023 as shown below.

This is not a duplicati related problem anymore but I wanted to tell you what was going on.

looks like a phone memory mounted via USB. These mounts tend to get broken because the phone is connected/disconnected, also I remember cases when the access mode changed more or less erratically. Maybe disconnecting the phone and connecting it again, doing then the pairing appropriately, would restore the mount.

It’s Synology photos application actually. It backups photos from the mobile phone to the nas.

Is running duplicati as root a good idea? Because that would be one possible solution.

Sorry I forgot about this Nas thing.
I guess that the files that don’t backup are the ones that are u+rwx, while the rwxrwxrwx backup correctly ? If that’s the case, the problem comes from this phone application it seems. If it creates the files with your personal ID as owner, maybe it could be done to run Duplicati as this ID instead of admin?
I admit that I don’t know Synology Duplicati configuration (I have never even seen a Synology NAS), so this may not be practical in fact.

You’re correct. Another problem here is that I have multiple users so the problem would still be appearing for other users if I only changed the id to one of those users’ id.

Speaking strictly in the Linux context - Synology must surely be based on some sort of Linux but these devices are often bringing some special customizations that one needs to know - a possibility for working around the rights limitation is to use ACLs. I am referring to it because there is some ACL used with your shared files (the ones with a ‘+’ at the end of the attributes).
The other way is to use root. Unfortunately I have no experience with Synology so I can’t even say if it is possible.

I don’t know why this was happening because the permissions were set correctly. I manually reapplied the permissions for the subfolders and files and the backup finished properly without any warning.
