I just installed Duplicati and got the following error message: Unencrypted database. The database is not encrypted. This is a security risk and should be fixed as soon as possible.
I looked at the referenced documentation page but I don’t really understand this, nor how to execute the commands. Is database encryption necessary? I run Duplicati from a PC to a local harddrive and my PC is encrypted (Bitlocker). I may also run backup to the cloud later.
Can anyone explain to me in layman’s terms what I need to do?
I just updated my version of Duplicati (on Windows 11) and got the same message.
I also read the documentation, and I don’t understand how the options provided would make things save. If I provide as password in a preload.json file, how is that save? I mean, the database itself would then be protected, but now I’ve got a new security risk, namely the precense of the database password in that preload.json file.
If I’d use an enviornment variable or provide the key on the command line, I suppose that would still pose a security risk.
So I wonder… what problem will be solved by using an encryption key which is stored on the same local machine as the database?
Dido… from a Linux Mint environment, Fresh install and first Backup completed with this Yellow note. Looked at the suggested notes that was very confusing. I understand that solutions would be different from Windows to Linux but I need better instructions for an Debian/Ubuntu/Linux Mint environment. Thanks
