Install instructions for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ('libappindicator0.1-cil' has no installation candidate)

Hi There, Been using duplicati on Mac, Windows and Linux for a while, very happy. In a moment of ambition I’m installing Ubuntu 24.04 on a new system and would like to back it up using duplicati. So far I’ve not been able to install it. That brings me to the libappindicator0.1-cil issue everyone has had, and saw the support thread. Frankly it left me confused. What is the easiest solution?

I am not aware of any good workarounds unfortunately.

If you can live without having the tray-icon, you can ignore the dependency and just run duplicati-server instead of duplicati.

If you really want the tray icon, I will post a canary build soon that does not rely on libappindicator or mono. It does change quite a lot of things though, and is significantly less tested, although the core implementation is unchanged.

So assuming Debian has the same problem that Ubuntu has, same awkward workarounds might work.

Alternatively there are some very early releases coming that avoid the problem. Don’t use in production.
