I just downloaded and installed duplicati-2.1.0.2_beta_2024-11-29-linux-x64-gui.deb. When I used my browser to sign in to http://localhost:8200/login.html, I got the message to enter my password. I tried what I have in Bitwarden and then a couple passwords I have used for other things. The Bitwarden-remembered password failed and so did other passwords. I see that there’s a way to fix the problem in Windows, but not in Linux. What do I do now?
AFAIK, if you have a tray icon for either, open that way, then set Settings.
The password requirement is new, there is no default, and rationale is at:
Increasing security for Duplicati’s web server
If you don’t have TrayIcon, it’s harder, and a service is more likely on Linux than Windows.
Duplicati Access Password is just out now and covers some other scenarios you might hit.
I tried to find an extension for Gnome which would give me a system tray to load a tray icon, but couldn’t find one. I then tried a completely different desktop environment which promised a system tray, but I couldn’t get the Duplicati icon to load there. I searched the Duplicati website, and although there is a link for “old versions” only the current version is available, so I don’t seem to be able to test if going back will allow me to log into my backups. Is there anything I can do to correct this problem (which, honestly, should have been caught in beta) or am I SOL?
If you are not using the TrayIcon, there is no requirement to use one. It is just the easiest way to “get in”.
You can grab the previous version from Github if you like:
But beware that it requires a little work to downgrade from 2.1.0.2:
It is not a “problem” as such, even if it is annoying. The change here greatly increases the security and mitigates privilege escalation, but it requires you to set a password.
There are multiple ways to log in, as described here:
