Let’s say someone wrote down their encryption password but looks like the ink got smudged in their book for the last few characters. They still have a working back-up and database file so it works fine for now but in a disaster recovery situation, they would need that password.

What is the best way to effectively guess/test the password? Since using the GUI pulls the hashed value from the database, there doesn’t appear to be a way to test in the GUI.

Welcome to the forum @Hello2215

[Export](https://docs.duplicati.com/configuration-and-management/import-and-export-backup-configurations#export) → As command line

puts it on screen as `--passphrase`. You don’t need to run the line, just look at it.

You could also export to a file with the right options and protection.

Still, knowing the encryption password is a nice idea – just in case.
