I have a daily backup on my pCloud account from my desktop computer.
After having purchased a laptop I’ve tried to access my backup from this new computer. I fetched an AuthID from pCloud and tried to connect to my backup.
An error message is returned when I test the connection : folder does not exit.
First, some context : le destination for the daily backup is a file destination. The pCloud account appears as an external disk in windows explorer (P:), and I targeted this disk for the backup.
I wanted to restore some file from the backup on another computer and I tried to use the pCloud backend. I could’nt do that.
Digging deeper, I tried tu use the pCloud backend for a test backup. If I choose a destination folder, say “TestOct31”, this folder is not created at the top level of my pCloud account.
Instead, an “Applications” folder is created at the top level, which contains a “DuplicatiBackup” folder, which in turn contains my folder “TestOct31”. I guess the “Applications” and “DuplicatiBackup” folders were created when I fetched the AuthID token.
It seems to me that this behaviour is a major restriction. Was it the intended behaviour ? Or am I doing something wrong ?
This is a limitation imposed by pCloud. Duplicati is an “application” for pCloud so it is restricted to working within the folder /Applications/DuplicatiBackup (because Duplicati is registered as an application with the name DuplicatiBackup).
I would assume that you can simply move the backup from its current location into the folder accessible by Duplicati and access it there?
For security, I think it is an acceptable limitation, because Duplicati cannot touch any other data that you may have in your pCloud account, and it does not need to.
