OS: RHEL 10.2

When backing up similarly named files and directories, I only get the file, not the other directory and sub files/directories.

Example:

/etc/ssh/sshd\_config.d/

/etc/ssh/sshd\_config

My backup only has /etc/ssh/sshd\_config. If I remove /etc/ssh/sshd\_config from the backup source data list, I then get the files/directories under /etc/ssh/sshd\_config.d/ properly. It seems that the “.d” is causing confusion in the backup routine if the file without it exists.

Look into the use and placement of the wildcard character “\*” applied in Filters of the Source data.

Thank you - I will try to see what Duplicati does. The problem is that these are explicitly defined and not wild card defined items. I am trying to backup the file sshd\_config and folder sshd\_config.d without wild cards which is failing. I am thinking that the .d is causing a problem in how Duplicati coded it which can cause further issues that are not easily observed.

[Files/folders not being backed up when selected together](https://forum.duplicati.com/t/files-folders-not-being-backed-up-when-selected-together/22627)
was another report with cause suspect and issue opened:

[backup quietly skips source folder if path start is also a source file #7189](https://github.com/duplicati/duplicati/issues/7189)

Thanks for reporting.
A fix will be in next canary:

> The code that checks for multiple inclusions of the same sub-folder was not veri…fying that the source was actually a folder.

> When including a file AND a folder that were similar, the file path would be treated as a folder that includes the folder, and the folder would be omitted.

The problem was the duplicate-path detection logic, it was designed to capture this

```plaintext
/etc/ssh/ <- folder
/etc/ssh/stuff/ <- folder
```

Here, there is no need to include `/etc/ssh/stuff`. The problem is this setup:

```plaintext
/etc/ssh <- file
/etc/ssh/stuff/ <- folder
```

This triggers the same logic, but naturally `/etc/ssh/stuff` cannot be inside the file, so it should not be removed from the source list.
